All are invited to a community Mass at noon Friday, Dec. 8, in Saint Thomas More Chapel to celebrate our Patronal Feast, the Immaculate Conception.

Later that afternoon Sister Marlys Jax and Sister JoAnn Haney (both Rochester Franciscans) will lead an afternoon/evening of prayer and reflection, “Advent Visio Divina.”  Marlys Jax, OSF, is the program coordinator for the Spirituality Center. She has many years of experience and study in art, prayer and spirituality. This will be an opportunity to reflect on and pray with familiar advent images and icons. The first session starts at 4 p.m. (location TBD), followed by dinner, and then another session from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

If you are interested in participating please fill out the following form:

Look for further details. Please feel free to invite friends or family. The cost of the retreat is $10 to cover the cost of dinner.

Visio Divina (Latin for “divine seeing”) is a method of praying with images or pictures. Images are an important way of communicating with God in this visually oriented culture. Stained glass windows and wall depictions of scriptural stories were used for teaching in earlier times. It bids people to see deeper beyond the cursory glance, and invites them to gaze beyond initial impressions.
