The current and former directors of Saint Mary’s University jazz programs led a group of area high school and college musicians on a one-week tour to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the sister city agreement between Winona, Minn., and Misato, Japan. Professor Emeritus Dr. John Paulson and Eric Heukeshoven of the Music Department were joined by seven students from Winona Senior High School, Cotter High School, and Saint Mary’s University. The group performed at a cultural fair in Misato, Japan on Dec. 4 to an audience of over 300. A reunion concert and fund-raiser to support the upcoming trip of Winona students to Misato is being planned for February 2017.
