The octet sounds of Saint Mary’s Jazz Combo 1 will be heard in a series of performances across Ireland during the university’s spring break week. Tour selections include an exciting set of new arrangements in the West Coast “Cool” style as well as favorite jazz standards from swing to jazz fusion.
Members of the touring ensemble include: Destiny Dux, alto sax; Nick Novotny, tenor sax; Jaci Bongard, baritone sax; Riley Frost, trumpet; Tim Ellis, drums; Paul Schmitt, bass. Rounding out the group are Camden Webster (2014 Music Industry graduate) on guitar and director A. Eric Heukeshoven on trombone.
Chicago jazz fans will have a chance to preview selections at an alumni reception on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Hilton Garden Inn – O’Hare beginning at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, March 2, the combo will give their first Ireland performance at “The Vault” in the Castle Hotel (Gardiner Row/Great Denmark Street, Dublin) beginning at 8 p.m.
At 8 p.m. on Friday, March 6, the octet will be featured performers at Galway’s premier jazz club, Busker Brownes (Cross Street Upper).
The group will complete their Ireland gigs with an informal presentation at the Kerry School of Music (Old Custom House – High Street) in Tralee on Saturday, March 7, at 11:30 a.m.
The hometown audience is invited to catch the combo at their free homecoming concert on Wednesday, March 11, in Figliulo Recital Hall
